About

Welcome to Radiology

Welcome to the University of Chicago Department of Radiology website! As an integral part of the University of Chicago Medicine, the Department of Radiology practices medicine at its highest caliber and continues expanding medical knowledge through research. Our 65 faculty, 45 residents & fellows and 270 staff maintain the highest quality of care, focusing on the patient and treating them with compassion, respect, and dignity.

The Department of Radiology was founded by Dr. Paul C. Hodges. With his impressive education and experience, he focused on the creation of a research-oriented department. It is my honor to continue his legacy as chairman. We encourage collaboration and integrated research within our faculty, leading us to be one of the top twenty academic Radiology Departments based on NIH funding. The breadth of our research has also expanded to COVID-19. Our research facilities include MRI Research Center (two 3-Tesla and one 9.4 Tesla dedicated MR scanners), Cyclotron, and a small animal imaging facility.

Our facility accommodates excellent GME programs to cultivate compassionate and competent radiology physicians. We create lifelong learners that meet the impressive standard of medical care set by the University of Chicago. Our residency programs include Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional Integrated Radiology, Interventional Independent Radiology, and Clinical Imaging Medical Physics. Residency training combines inpatient and outpatient experience with the country’s most medically complex cases. The Fellowship Programs at the University are exemplary in providing trainees with exposure to a wide variety of clinical diagnoses to strengthen their critical thinking. We offer one and two-year fellowships in Abdominal Radiology, Breast Imaging, Chest and Cardiovascular Imaging, Musculoskeletal Imaging, and Neuroradiology. The Graduate Program in Medical Physics offers research training that will culminate in a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

We are here to provide excellent care for our patients, develop and translate breakthrough innovations through research, and train outstanding next-generation radiologists and imaging scientists and look forward to adding similar-minded faculty and trainees to our Department.
