Radiology Postdoctoral Scholar, Dr. Durkee, receives Poster Award at 2020 SPIE Medical Imaging conference

Congratulations to Radiology Postdoctoral Scholar, Dr. Madeleine Durkee, on receiving a Poster Award at the 2020 SPIE Medical Imaging conference. This annual conference, which was held in Houston, Texas, is widely attended by University of Chicago Radiology faculty, researchers, post docs, and students.

Dr. Durkee's awarded poster summarizes her research using deep convolutional neural networks for detecting and quantifying immune cells in fluorescence confocal images of lupus nephritis biopsies. Specifically, it compares the performance of two different neural network architectures in the task of identifying, segmenting, and classifying T cells and dendritic cells in these images. The ultimate goal of this work is to automatically segment and classify immune cells in these biopsies for rapid, high-throughput analysis of in situ immunity.
