Radiology Director, Monica Geyer, Sews Masks for Radiology Team

On March 28th, a couple of days following the implementation of remote work orders by the department, Director of Radiology, Monica Geyer, decided that she had to do something to help the department's frontline workers amidst the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, Monica dragged out her sewing machine, dusted off her sewing skills and got to work making masks. She details that although her efforts started slowly, they picked up speed as sewing skills that she hadn’t used in a long time kicked in. That weekend, she was able to make 17 masks which she delivered to Patient Access manager, Rosaline Hughes, to distribute to the Clinic Coordinators on duty the following Monday morning, March 30th. It was imperative to Monica that the Clinic Coordinators receive these masks since they are the first Radiology employees who come in contact with our patients.

As of Tuesday, May 5th, Monica has sewed 330 masks for UCM Radiology employees. These masks have gone to technologists, nurses, clinic coordinators, schedulers and film librarians. Please view the photo gallery above for images of Radiology staff wearing Monica's masks.  Monica will to continue making these mask until all UCM Radiology Employees have one and then plans to begin making additional masks for Faculty, Residents, Fellows, and BSD administrative staff.

Please join us in thanking Monica for her dedication and generous efforts to ensure the safety of our Radiology Team and patients!
