Dr. Osman Ahmed was awarded the BSD Distinguished Clinical Junior Award, which recognizes highly talented faculty members for their clinical excellence. Dr. Maryellen Giger was awarded the BSD Distinguished Investigator Senior Award, which recognizes highly talented faculty members for research excellence. Dr. Heber MacMahon was awarded the Golden Key Award. The Golden Key Award is presented by the Medical & Biological Sciences Alumni Association in recognition of outstanding and loyal service to the Division of the Biological Sciences and to the University of Chicago.

The 2021 BSD Distinguished Faculty Award winners are the first to be featured in the newly-renovated Surgery Brain Research Institutes (SBRI) building lobby on Ellis Avenue. This renovation includes a wall installation dedicated to the award recipients, where each winner is honored with his or her own plaque.
