We were honored to host Dr. Dmitriy Nikolavsky, MD, Professor of Urology and Director of Reconstructive Urology at SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York, as our distinguished speaker for the departmental spring Diversity & Inclusion Grand Rounds on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Dr. Nikolavsky delivered an insightful presentation on "Genital Gender Affirmation: Surgical Anatomy and Management of Complications." His expertise shed light on this crucial aspect of healthcare for an important minority population which we at University of Chicago Medicine are increasingly serving, by providing valuable insights into relevant anatomical considerations, specific historical and innovative surgical techniques, as well as the management of associated complications.
The session offered a unique opportunity for attendees to deepen their understanding of gender-affirming surgeries and their significance in promoting inclusivity and patient-centered care. We are fortunate to have had such an experienced and engaging speaker visit with us for the day, all the while accompanied with a healthy dose of humor.
