Curriculum Developed by Drs. Yang and Magee focus of ACR Case Study: “Preparing for PAMA”

The curriculum developed by Dr. Carina Yang and fourth year radiology resident, Dr. Andrea Magee, is the focus of the American College of Radiology’s Quality and Safety Case Study entitled “Preparing for PAMA”. Published on May 30, 2019, the case study details Drs. Yang’s and Magee’s development of a curriculum that introduces first-year internal medicine interns to the ACR Appropriateness Criteria and promotes high value image ordering. The curriculum, developed in conjunction with internal medicine specialist, is now part of the University of Chicago’s ambulatory program for internal medicine interns. The program provides an example of how to prepare for the Protecting Access to Medicare Act, which requires clinicians to consult appropriate use criteria via clinical decision support tools when ordering advance-imaging studies for Medicare Part B patients, starting on Jan. 1, 2020.
