
The Department of Radiology International Visiting Professor program had a busy summer/fall season with 3 leading authorities visiting the Department for extended periods of time.
Professor Takamichi Murakami, chair of the Department of Radiology at Kinki University, Osaka Japan and an authority on liver imaging techniques, spent several days with faculty and trainees in Abdominal Imaging. Dr. Murakami provided the August 1 noon conference lecture on “Optimal Techniques for MDCT Liver Imaging” and participated in the daily Abdominal Imaging activities and clinical daily conference. Evening events included dinner with faculty.

Professor Carlo Bartolozzi, chair of the Department of Radiology at the University of Pisa, Italy and President of the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology spent 3 days as a visiting professor. August 4 Dr. Bartolozzi gave a grand rounds entitled “From Cirrhotic Nodule to HCC” and August 5 he participated in the resident noon conference showing Italian abdominal imaging cases to the residents. During these days he also participated in the abdominal imaging reading room activities and daily conferences. Evening events included multiple dinners with faculty and fellows.

Dr Laszlo Tabar, Professor of Radiology University of Uppsala School of Medicine, Sweden, an internationally recognized leader in breast cancer research and education visited our department on September 30, 2008. As part of a day long program Dr. Tabar gave two outstanding lectures, titled “How to Find Breast Cancer When it is Still Small“ and “The New ERA in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer”. Dr. Tabar is the author of 170 articles s and many textbooks including the classic textbook: “Teaching Atlas of Mammography” 1983 with Dr. Peter B. Dean, which has been translated into in six languages. More recently he has published “The Art & Science of Early Detection With Mammography”, “Practical Breast Pathology” and two volumes describing calcification analysis at mammography, with Drs. Tibor Tot and Peter B. Dean.
Dr Tabor’s visiting professorship was sponsored by the SPORE (Specialized Program of Research Excellence) grant awarded to the University of Chicago Breast Program in 2006.
